: (Thus Gee is wrong in denouncing those of us who dream of something better - SDF)I am one one the 'dreamers' when it comes to ideal societies. What I certainly do believe is that utopian ideals which require, as a premise, that people have dramatically changed the way they interact with their identities, their abilities and other poeple are of little purpose. Attempts in various countries to 're-educate' the people attest to this, and I am deeply skeptical about the popular appeals to 'brainwashed masses' in either America or China, or anywhere.
Its easy to say "if people were..." then follow this with any number of utopian systems, I can and do ocasionally fall into this trap. Much more difficult to say "people are..." and then consider what changes are not only beneficial but actually posible. That narrows the field.
