Your labor power is worth something, isn't it? Could the school you hope to work for one day teach students without you? I understand your point about being at the whim of your employer (such whims tempered by union membership), but they need you too.

That's fine, as long as they don't go overboard with the sympathy and leave the jail door open at night for Vito "The Merciless" Kilgore to slip out.

I do see the transformation of humans into inventory to be a qualitatively more ominous development than the voluntary buying and selling of human labor -- given that many inmates are African American, it's as if our country has come full circle back to its roots.
