: Now, I do not rely on science with any sort of blind faith that somehow some genius somewhere will scream "Eureka!" and invent a solar power cell that is actually efficient. Far from it.

Yes you do; your continued support for the current system in the face of the evidence says so.

: However, based on historical trends and the shear speed with which we are able to communicate globally, I know that a better substitute for fossil fuels will come about, and that we will progress.

Amazing; you can know the future. Care to speculate where such a Holy Grail might come from? - I've already refuted solar, gravitational, biospheric, wind and wave energy as full substitutes for fossil fuels.

If such a substitute comes about, I would gladly eat my words. However, as a scientist, I don't see any obvious sources of energy on the horizon.

: It is my opinion that disregarding the ingenuity of our species is being quite narrow minded.

I've said repeatedly that I'm not disregarding it; but I don't think that human ingenuity can provide the sole solution here.

This is the first time that humanity has come up against a truly global problem; all of the previous problems have been localised and limited; soluble by transferring the problem from an immediate short-term problem to a longer-term one. This one's different; and failure to recognise it as such will mean the end of Western society as we know it.
