: : : Hey...maybe McDonalds can roboticize the hamburger flipper jobs to...ahh, progress.: : SDF: And Frenchy will celebrate the consequent loss of jobs.
: SDF, you're right on target with all your responses to Frenchy, except that I think Frenchy was on to something with his robotic miners. Technology can be used for good or evil, and I would consider it a good technological advance if we could produce machines, or robots, which spare people from drudgery and/or dangerous tasks. Farm machines which pick cotton spare people from that arduous, back-breaking work. Before you jump on me, however, I would add that none of the above will be worth it unless we find alternative, clean and renewable sources of energy, and unless we provide BETTER jobs for those people who are displaced by machines.
Oh, your so kind. But, in the tradition of traditional conservatism, the miner angle wasn't mine. It's common knowledge. That's what progress does; it relieves people of drudge work.
Don't sweat about who'll provide better jobs for people who are displaced by machines. Just get the hell out of the way and let people draw on their own abilities instead of waiting for government handouts.
None.
