Gee:
Majoritarianism is despotism by any other name. The popularity of a given thing does not make it ok and people who appeal to majoritarianism tend to ignore (or evade) the possibility that they are being 'sore losers' right now because the majority arent playing it the way they want.

Stoller:
Aside from the fact that your last sentence deconstructs your first, you are arguing AGAINST democracy.

And that's scary.

: Why? You're arguing against what the manjority of western people evidently want / tolerate / consider ok right now.

Sure I am, and (under advanced bourgeois law) I have the right to agitate.

As I've said over and over, the MAJORITY of people must want socialism before it can happen. I am simply urging that they DO SO. And, I've said quite explicitly that I think Russia is the most probable country to adopt socialism at THIS point.

: [I]if the 'masses' really didnt like the way it is then do you think it would be this way?

One hundred unarmed people versus one dude with a machine gun ALTERS simple numerical strength. It is MORE THAN POSSIBLE that majorities can face OVERWHELMING FORCE held by minorities. That only makes the struggle more pronounced, more vigorous when it does occur.

: If you were a genuine majoritarian you'd be doing your 9-5 job, watching ball games and doing and accepting whatever the majority of americans are doing and accepting right now.

What an elitist sentiment.

Just because working people are oppressed by the overwhelming power of the capitalist apparatus doesn't mean they LIKE it.
