: Japan had famines before their defeat by the U.S.; with their preset level of development, one would be hard put to find someone unemployed, let alone hungry. China, however, continued to have famines as late as the 1970's, and North Korea had a really bad one going on as late as last year. Vietnam's ability to produce food continues to plummet, as the irrigation system put in place by U.S. AID workers continues to deteriorate.

Until communists allow businesses to do something about the underdeveloped nature of these nations, however, all the lettuce eating in the world won't do the poor and hungry one bit of good. Wrong, scumbag! Japan is beginning to have some unemployment problems, I know because I live here. They've begun to have these problems for a variety of reasons, on of which is that they're a capitalist state with socialist distortions, but these socialist distortions are being taken away, which is angering a large section of the public. In fact, the Japanese Communist Party (primarily reformist of course, not a revolutionary party) has been making some gains in parliament.

Indeed. You have no idea how much enjoyment I’ve received from your pleasant little missive. It is this sort of acclaim from the Left that ensures that whatever I have said has found that mark of irrefutable veracity that I so diligently strive for.
Now, we were speaking of … unemployment? Do you compare the present conditions of Japan to those in the 1930’s, perchance, when nary a capitalist was present, and the zaibatzus were kept in their places by the feudal “cummunalists”? Hmm. As an expert on the conditions of Japan, you might be familiar with the practice of protectionism. It is practiced there, as we “scumbags” all know too well, as a means to protect Japanese industries – especially the farming industry, as I recollect, who possesses a particularly strong union and practices an unusually inefficient form of agriculture. The Greens might approve of their feudal methods, but the Japanese consumer (and, one would assume, you) is forced to pay some of the highest food prices in the world to support it.
Incidentally, might this have anything to do with the rising standards of living in other regional Pacific nations? Did you expect that these states would forever sit placidly by, content to gape at what has proven itself to be a world-class success for Japanese productivity and material well-being? Or did you honestly expect that they would adopt a Vietnam style of communism without the use of military force? Come now – even the Chinese tire of this farce.
The question is not how long communism will take to find willing hosts, but rather how most efficiently and quickly we can repair the damage wrought by this most terrible and inclement political fad. The “Communist Era” is finished, buried by its own self-evident ugliness and hubris, and only these pale attempt at dressing it in spiritual greenery have allowed it to hobble along this far. Get over it.
