Treat any newspaper with a pinch of salt, Lark.

: Sorry about that, just relating what I read, I seen it in the Guardian, at least I think I did.

The Guardian didn't exactly cover itself with glory over its reportage either. To be honest, none of the mass media did; they were all busy peddling the New Labour-approved words of Jack Straw - who declared that they were all anarchist thugs out to destroy society.

I quote Jack Straw saying;

"This country has a fine tradition of peaceful protest,
which is an essential part of any healthy and functioning democracy," he said.

"The refusal of the organisers to co-operate with the police shows a contempt for peaceful protest and for democracy."

(Jack Straw has since tabled a bill to make peaceful protest for democracy an act of terrorism. Obviously, he's a real freedom-loving sort...)

Compare and contrast with Mike Moore's statement after the opening day in Seattle;

"The United States of America, like all free nations, has a history of peaceful protest. Peaceful protests have led to important reforms and great achievements in the United States. Such protests have been instrumental in leading to a process of dialogue and engagement that had paved the way for achievement. But violence and destructive behaviour have never been part of that process."

: Just goes to show you should know your cheeseburgers.

What is this sudden fixation with hamburgers, Lark - don't you realize that meat and oil are probably the two single items providing the greatest contributions to global inequality today?

Farinata.
