Touche, Stoller. That wasn't carefully written and I retract it.
While I will no longer try to sell the Workers's Vanguard, and haven't for years, I presented my point clumsily.
I'm not insenensitive to racism in America--I'm very aware of it. In fact, if I were to give you my resume and personal history, you might even applaud the sweet innocence of my reformist past. Some of the activities I'm involved in now might even have softened your rebuttal of me.
I will say one thing, though, and we may lock horns on this issue as well. While capitalist America is indeed deeply racist, it is my belief that American capitalism is only INCIDENTALLY racist. That is, while we all know that the CEO's are overwhelmingly white males, American capitalism could have, say, 10% of its CEO's as Blacks, say another 30% or so as females.
I don't think this will happen, but the point is it COULD. One could monkey with the statistics forever, but what I'm saying is that, theoretically, we could have gender and racial equality and STILL have the exploitation INHERENT in capitalism. The Romans, for example, were quite prejudiced, but not racist. Some of their emperors were Ethiopian.
As this relates to the Sparts and the O.J. case, I objected to their take on this case as I did their treatment of other issues and their general presentation--although the porn-star was a refreshing change. But as you have access to the papers I don't think I want to continue slamming Trotskyists in this forum. I've stated my objections to one group's paper and that's enough.
