: Er...what I said was "support the aims of the Greens". (I actually tend to vote for the Peace and Freedom Party). Democratic participation Means empowerment, both as means and as objectifiable ends.

Bill, can you tell me a little bit more about teh Peace and Freedom Party? i don't know much about them, only that they formed a coalition with the black panthers in the late '60s and that they ran both Dick Gregory and Eldridge Cleaver on presidemntial tickets in teh '68 (?) election. Eldridge, former Minister of Information of teh Black Panther Party, was exiled to Algeria and France and later sold out, becoming a Republican businessman. Reportedly, he became a Republican after Jesus stopped him in France from putting a bullet through his head. personally, I would have chosen the bullet for myself rather than becoming a conservative. death before dishonor!

I also heard that they ran in a special election in Oakland a few years ago, and garnered thousands of votes against the Democrat - is that true?

What do they stand for exactly? Where would they fit on teh political spectrum? And how close are they to 1) winning any political office, 2) influencing the system in more subtle ways., or 3) launching effective protests, rallies, strikes, ro otehr extra-legal methods of advancing socialism.

Thanks for any information
