Hi all, I worked at the Bendigo store for around 20 months, resigning earlier this year. The crew there had reached a point where they had had a gutful of the abuse, bullshit, politics, and mistreatment of them and others. A crewmember's husband prominent within the local telecommunications union advised us of sateps we could take to obtain for form of representation on a union level, and a meeting was organised. The lengths that the owners/some managers of the Bendigo store took to spy and see who was involved was extraordinary and pure evidence of paranoia. At the meeting we had, a van was parked across the road with four people in it with binoculars and, as we were to find out later, a video camera. The van was borrowed, so it could not be traced, and they decided to spy to their hearts content. The meeting went ahead, and they union officials were given incidne tafter incident of mistreatment, lies, theft, and generally bad store ownership. The union reps took it away, and prepared to run a story in the local newspaper, with authority from every person to back up their claims. However, the story was suddenly scuttled by the paper, claiming legal issues that prevented it from running th story. It was, and still is, believed that the business interest of the owner would be damaged by the running of the story. Needless to say, we all had a feeling this would happen. That once again, the corporate face would hide the shame, disrespect and unlawfulness of every McDonalds store worldwide. The franchise owner at Bendigo (Australian residents: you may know who I'm talking about. If not, find out!!) is quite prominent in the Australian McDonalds community (apparently). This may have had something to do with the non running of the story also, considering that people high up do find out about our actions. Ultimately, the union wasn't able to take off at Bendigo Maccas, the lie goes on, and the workers get screwed into the ground and the customers are none the wiser. It's a shame, but hopefully, McLibel Part 2 may take place there someday. Paul White
