Hey guess what we domesticated plants for our own consumption every domestic plant since the beginning of civilization is genetically altered-- McSpotlight: Yeah, but how many plants in that time have had fish genes in them? All previous hybridisations have involved two closely compatible species. GM doesn't; it is known that GM food can cross-pollinate related wild species, but the long-term health risks of GM food are not known; if it does cause long-term health problems, it's a bit late to try and clean up the contamination; as pollen can float thousands of miles under the right circumstances.
