After living 16 years in Poughkeepsie, just down the river from Red Hook,
it is with great hope that I read of your town's fight against the proposed
strip mall/McD's development of rural land.

Your posting came in July and it is now Dec. 12, 1996, the eve of the closing
of the McLibel trial. What happened with your town's fight? One group that
may serve you as an ally if you haven't already discovered them is Scenic Hudson.

This group was part of a larger feature article in the March 1996 issue of
National Geographic on the Hudson Valley. Ironically enough the article
highlights the threat of urban sprawl and development on the valley.

Scenic Hudson is one group trying to prevent this while offering solutions.
After the great IBM closures of the early '90's from Fishkill to Kingston,
the Valley undoubtedly doesn't need McD's to be the new corporate saviour.

Let us know,
Cheers
