: Share the miximitosus, share the miximitosus!

Are you wise man? Would you prefer they all die off?

I didn't quite catch that, I'd better look back along the thread.

: Oh yeah, it's science fiction. I believe Brin has a PhD in physics, but his writing is accessible to the non-scientist without being condescending, in that you can actually learn something about astronomy, etc. while being entertained. (By the way, Brin wrote the novella, "The Postman," which Kevin Costner promptly mutilated in his movie version of it).

Did he really mutilate it? That's one of my all time favourite films, it demonstrates the competitive nature of facism and the fact that communication and information are subversive, although it was apparent that like Water World Mr. Lead was on a major ego trip.

:I've never heard of Terry Pratchett, but I'm guessing he/she writes SF too. Can you recommend a good one?

Well the facts are with Pratchett that unless your reading his early books, the colour of magic, the light fantastic, men at arms, you wont like his books at all because his recent ones make that much reference to the earlier ones and it's a major cult thing that you just find impossible to penetrate as an outsider.

Pratchett writes fantastically humorous books that are mixture of medieval sci-fi and semi-political commentry, Men at Arms is about Gun culture!! and they all take place in a semi-anarchy where there is only one capitalist and he poisons his customer!!
