: I really like beef burgers but I know that the slash and burn operations etc. that produce them are death to the environment and real insane capitalism, so can anyone recommend to me a way that I could indulge my taste without wrecking everything?: Short of growing cows in my back yard, which isnt really big enough for that.
Well, you could do the following:
1) Ignore your ethical concerns and feast at McDonalds, free at last from turmoil between mind and body (unfortunately, you'd probably need a lobotomy to do this, since you already know too much).
2) Stop eating hamburgers and hang in there. At first, you'll miss them mightily. After a while, you'll be indifferent. Ultimately, the thought of eating flesh will repulse you (my fellow veggies can attest to this process).
3) Explore the wonderful world of meat analogues! I recommend "Yves'" veggie burgers. It's a Canadian company which, to my mind and stomach, makes the best gosh-darn veggie burgers out there. They also make a mean veggie pepperoni. I know you're in Ireland, where they may not have Yves, but you're right next to the old Empire, and there's plenty of crazy veggie types there, so they must have good stuff. Good luck.
