There are 27 specific complaints against the British Crown set forth in the Declaration of Independence. Here are eight that don't seem like good reasons to become a republic. I would have found more had the document not bored me to death.1 ...has called together Legislative Bodies at Places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant...for the dole purpose of fatiguing them into Compliance with his Measures.
Basically what every President does the the Senate and the House.
2 ...has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public Good.
Your Congress won't pass a balanced budget constitutional amendment or legislation banning people over 30 from wearing pandex bicycle shorts.
3 ...has endevoured to prevent the Population of these States; for the Purpose of obstructing the Laws of Natralization of Foreigners; refusing...to encourage their Migrants hither...
Tell a Vietnamese boat person, a Hong Kong shopkeeper or a migrant worker from Mexico that this doesn't decribe the US immigration Policy.
4 ...has combined with others to subject us to a Jurisdiction foreign to our Constitution, and unacknowledged by our Laws...
Federal regulatory agencies, for instance.
5 ...Depriving us, in many Cases, of the Benefits of Trial by Jury.
What happens when someone crosses one of those regulatory agencies.
6 ...Cutting off our Trade with all Parts of the World
is what trade quotas and tariffs do.
7 ...Imposing Taxes on us without our Consent.
When was the last time YOU were asked if you wanted to pay your taxes?
8 ...has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts...and destroyed the Lives of our People.
Any treehuggers will say the same.
And another thing. The 1st amendment forbids any law "abridging the freedom of speech." it doesn't say anything about what you say, so bag mcdonald's all you want.
the 2nd amendment states, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" full-stop. There is no mention of magazine size, rate of fire, or to what extent those arms may resemble assult rifles. All rifles in those days were assult rifles.
i think it's high time you get rid of your government and their use of media hype to detract from the real issues at hand. you ask them to fix drug problems, they'll do something about gun laws and assign police to target dealers and users. how has this, with their crap house funding, done any good???
