You raise a very good issue here. I do not doubt that you are sincere in your seeking of God. I can only say that perhaps in your seeking, that maybe you are holding some your pride? One must totally let go, that is, give Jesus all one's sins, pride, and licivious behaviour. He promises to answer with forgiveness.
I too sought God as a youngster. I found that I became too smart for Him real quick. It wasn't until I looked in the mirror one day and realised how much of a wicked wretch that I was on my own, that I really had to come to Our Lord totally without pride or presumption. That was difficult to do for someone like me, as you perhaps have learned over the past year or so.
I think God called me as a youngster, I rebeled, but He never gave up on me and welcomed me home when I came truly repentent.
I can only say keep on praying, dear friend. I'll pray along side your heart. May God Bless you richly and deeply.
