Animals in factory farms are the victims of the worst kind of capitalist exploitation, the kind that views living creatures (including humans) as commodities to be used and abused at will.I'm glad you're busy helping humanity, but to paraphrase a saying, surely you have room in your heart for animals as well. Practically every animal rights activist I know is also deeply committed to human rights (myself included, and I won't itemize what I've done to help my fellow man). Animal rights is on the same continuum of exploitation that you rage against, so why relegate it to a sub-sub issue. It's a very important issue, and as McSpotlight points out, vitally important to human welfare and the environment -- reason enough for you or anyone else to care, regardless of how you feel about animals.
As for the benefits bestowed by Communism and Catholicism, I could spend hours reciting the litany of horrors these two ideologies have burdened the planet with.
Since you obviously care about injustice, consider expanding that circle of caring to include animals as well.

To cart all this grain from the Third World to the First is not merely depriving the Third World of it; it is also using fossil fuels to transport a foodstuff that could be more efficiently grown in the West in the first place. Think of vegetarianism as direct nutrition that cuts out the middleman (the cow).

: Why compare the two anyway? - it's a heirarchical approach to say that X is better than Y. I'm quite happy to work with anyone who shares enough common ground with me; but I feel it to be my brotherly duty to point out some imperfections in his thought. The meat industry is one of the dynamos that drives the capitalist system; meat and oil are the two things that our system depends upon; break either and you destabilize our current society close to breaking point.
