: Ok, being a creationist and future scientist here's my explanation:: Yes humans and gorillas have similar DNA. If you take a look at all of the organisms that inhabit earth, organize them from the simplest to the most complex, you should find that there are alot of creatures with similar DNA.
The degree of similarity is the key here; if you check the amount of congruent DNA between two organisms, you can estimate reasonably well how far back in history the two species diverged; that's how we can guess that a shrew is more closely related to an elephant than either species are to humanity.
: I personally believe this is due to the result that a higher power created things in order, taking things from the prior creation and adding and changing some things in the process.
Fair enough; this doesn't challenge evolution at all. It's a flat-out contradiction of the Bible, but it doesn't trouble any scientific theories at all.
: In the case of the bacteria, yes they do evolve (and quite fast since their reproductive rates are so rapid). I believe that a higher power endowed the creations with the power to adapt to their environment, hence the ability to evolve.
: How's that?
Great, Darya. However, you've already demonstrated that you belong to a reasonably tolerant form of Christianity, as does Lark; you don't have any problem with the idea of evolution or virtuous pagans.
I challenged Shaun, because he has stated repeatedly that he doesn't believe in evolution; he subscribes to a literal version of the Creation, as do Robert and (I think) Stuart.
You and Shaun can't *both* be right; as you are standing on opposite sides of the fence here; you both believe in God, but that's about it.
I can believe that you're willing to let Shaun continue to hold his beliefs, but is he prepared to let you hold yours?; or is believing in the theory of evolution subscribing to a Humanist lie in his eyes?
If it is, can you both be Christians as each of you understands the term "Christian"?; for you disagree on a biggish point in doctrine. If it isn't, why does he continue in his efforts to convince as many people as possible that evolution is untrue?
You simply aren't a "Creationist" in the accepted sense of the word; to be that you would have to believe that the theory of Evolution is untrue.
Farinata.
(for what it's worth, I'd put my money on the observed evidence; there's plenty to back up the theory of evolution).
None.
