Service Charges.

A lot of those cards will add a service charge of $.50 to the cost of every call, and on a $10 calling card, if you make multiple short calls your # of minutes can quickly deplete that way.

They are a ripoff. Better to get real long distance service in your home or charge the calls directly to your credit card or something.
