- Anything Else -Omnivorous Humans
Humans began as vegetarians just as other apes. We know that humans began scavenging the kills of other animals, like the buzzards do. From this lowly beginning humans started imitating the carnivores and hunting other animals rather than just scavenging. It seems that in order to be able to rely on animals as a food source, the flesh had to be partially decomposed. Try eating a fresh raw leg of lamb. Cooking the flesh of animals must have a similar effect on meat as allowing it to decompose. I doubt that humans could live on a diet of raw flesh. The body would reject it, and it is likely that it would pass through us without providing the necessary nourishment. Eating raw fish as the japanese do appears to be an isolated practice and culturally based rather than necessity driven. Why humans became omnivores and what the effect on human evolution was as a result of this would be an interesting research paper. None.
