The average North American derives 60% of her or his caloric intake from animal products. I believe the average European consumes a little less... about 40-50%. In India, China, and other Asian nations, the percentage is closer to 20%. This is also true of most other primates. Oddly enough, North America has the highest rates of such dietary problemss as diabetes, heart disease, osteoperosis, and hich cholesterol. Many European countries are not far behind. It doesn't look odd from here, but we sure do consume a lot more meat and dairy than any other culture, and that ain't all good. (Besides health problems, it results in many environmental problems, and a poor use of food energy. Eating lower on the food chain is more efficient use of energy, as is indicated by the decreasing numbers of individuals in any given niche as you climb the food chain.) None.
