The government is made up of a small bunch of selfish humans, yet everyone thinks the solution to the corruption is to put power in the hands of the public... a much larger bunch of selfish humans.We cannot become accustomed to thinking of the "government" as a thing... it's a group of people demonstrating their self-interested behavior. Furthermore, it is behavior that I would wager most people would mimic when tempted with power and money as many of them are.
I will yield the sensible point that governing bodies are wont to become corrupt. But I question whether direct power in the hands of individuals produces more or less friction among groups than the current system in place.
Human societal relations are terribly complex - I think scapegoating all of our ills on the government is underthought and premature.
