: Knowing all that, can someone explain how any parent or abortion doctor can possibly take part in the murder of a baby (abortion) and still have a clean conscious?

: McSpotlight: another hot topic; both sides, do your best to be civil about it.
The easiest justification is that the baby is unwanted, and would live a life of hardship and deprivation if carried full-term.
The kindest solution would be to put the baby up for adoption, but that doesn't seem to work anymore. Why do American couples who can afford to travel choose to go to former Communist Bloc countries in eastern Europe to adopt? Perhaps they want white babies, seeing as how nearly half of the babies in the US availible for adoption are black, who spend years in foster care before being adopted. Or, thanks to some highly-publicized cases, they're worried about the knock on their doors a few years down the road from one of the natural parents, when the natural parent decides to contest the adoption. Believing this, killing the fetus (call it a baby if you prefer) seems kinder under the circumstances.
The doctors might justify their actions by believing the baby would be unloved if carried full-term. The mother may leave it to die in a trash bin if she's desparate. Perhaps the doctors see the perceived effects on children who grow up without love and guidance; namely, they tend to become criminals themselves. (Not every time, of course, I'm talking about perception.) Perhaps an abortion now saves the state the trouble and expense of an execution.
: (can't help wondering if there are any anti-abortion people in favour of the death penalty...)
In case you are wondering, I feel there should be more abortions, not fewer. You can insert your own justifications. As for the death penalty, it mostly serves society's need for revenge. It obviously doesn't deter crime, but a publicized execution always draws a boisterous crowd to the gates of the prison, counting down to the midnight execution like on New Year's Eve. It just goes to show that we haven't evolved much from medieval times, when hangings were at noon, and crowds gathered to place wagers on how many times the hangman would kick before dying.
Face it; death is quite convenient.
