I have never heard a convincing argument that I SHOULD value a human life more than the life of a tree. Every argument I've heard about human superiority has come from a human, just like arguments for white superiority are enshrined in racist doctrine and arguments that men are superior to women are inherently sexist. I think there are some assumptions in our culture we seriously need to address.

Besides, when is the last time a tree's life had a negative impact on the planet, on individuals, on species? Trees, to me, represent strength, support, shelter, and connection to the heart of the planet and to the unified soul of all life like no human can. I guess at the root of my argument is my belief that life should not be evaluated hierarchically; it should be respected in all its many forms.
