The milk is availible because of the constant milking

Wel, it seems that cows produce milk after the birth of their calves for nursing them. When the calves are weaned, they stop drinking milk, and the udders would dry up. However, the milk doesn't dry up because we humans keep drinking it. We are the only species that drinks milk beyond infancy. When the cow gets old or diseased, causing the milk to dry up or spoil, the cow is then slaughtered along with the rest of the beef cattle.
