McDonald's today announced the buy out of a domestic fast food chain. 17 of the 32 total nationwide "Georgie Pie" restaurants in NZ have been brought by McDonald's. GP owner Progressive Enterprises managing director Graeme Kelly said the deal involved real estate transactions rather than the sale of the restaurants as going concerns.McDonald's managing director Al Dunn said McDonald's were approached by PE. Most of the sites will be converted to McDonald's. Precisely which ones have been sold won't be known for a few weeks. The announcement will however come just in time for the build up to October 16.
The operator of two McDonald's restaurants in Melbourne is suing the hamburger giant because he claims the group's plans to open more outlets will drain his profits and endanger the jobs of his staff. The writ has been lodged with the Supreme Court by Rodney Hackett, 50, of Canterbury, who is seeking unspecified damages for what he alleges are breaches of legal and contractual duties.
