Day 250 - 15 May 96 - Page 44

  Q. This is when Mrs. Brinley-Codd visited the next day and saw
you and Mr. Carroll and ----
       A. I am not sure who else she saw.

  Q. I thought that is what had been said. You do not remember?
       A. No, I saw her the next day, I do not know when
Mr. Carroll saw her or, indeed, anyone else saw her.

  Q. I think Mr. Carroll did say he had seen her. Why did you
not walk up to me and ask me for a copy of the leaflet?
       A. I did not want to. I first thought about just picking
one up from the bundle, but I thought it would a better
idea to have it served on me.

  Q. Yes. So, you could have walked over to me, said 'I would
like to read one of them, can you give me one?'?
       A. No, I did not want to have any kind of confrontation
with you, you were already under observation. I took the
walk round the building and got one from the guy at the
top. I did not know there was a man at the top until I got
       there.

  Q. But if I was already under observation would it not have
been the ideal opportunity to walk up to me?
       A. I was not getting evidence against you, I was just
observing you. I wanted to see whether you exercised any
control over that demonstration, over people on that
demonstration. That was my main interest in you and
Gravett. You were the only two I knew.

  Q. OK. You then went back to your office, and you went to
pick up your car at about 6 o'clock, just after?
       A. Yes.

  Q. You drove out of the car park?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Where was I at this time?
       A. You were probably the nearest demonstrator to my car
when I stopped to pull out into the High Street.

  Q. How long did you stop there for?
       A. Seconds, until I was able to pull across the road.

  Q. It is quite a busy main road?
       A. Very busy.

  Q. You have to be very careful?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Yes. You would be keeping your eye on the road, watching
       it carefully?
       A. Yes, I just saw you as I pulled up to where would
       normally be a stop line.

  Q. You saw me in the same position?
       A. No, I do not think you were in exactly the same
position, you were much closer to the kerb. You were just
standing there and you still had some of the leaflets in
