Day 208 - 24 Jan 96 - Page 11

       A. No. I have never turned up without giving notice --
never not turned up without giving notice.

MS. STEEL: If you turn to page 241, just the one at the top,
"Rewards. What are your opinions on pay rises and rates?"
The answer is: "Disagree with policy on under-18s pay, do
the same work." I presume the complaint was that under-18s
ought to get the same rate as the over-18s, seeing as they
       do the same work?
       A. That would have been the grievance, yes.

  Q. Did you agree with that?
       A. Well, at the time I was over 18, so it did not really
concern me. But, having worked there before as being an
under-18, I did not see it as unfair, particularly.

  Q. I presume you would have preferred to get the over-18 rate?
       A. Well, obviously, I would have preferred to, but most of
the full-timers, if not all of them, are over the age of
       18. It is the part-timers that are doing their 'A' Levels
that are not. So you could look at it as being an extra
       perk for being a full-timer.

  Q. The over-18 part-timers do not get paid a lower rate, do
       they?
       A. We -----

  Q. They get the same as the over-18 full-timers?
       A. They do, but we do not have that many of them, to be
honest, or they are very seasonal.

  Q. Two lines under that, where it says: "PRs are behind, but
the Managers are addressing that", did you agree with that
       comment?
       A. Not from personal experience, but from talking to other
people, yes, I would agree with the comment, and I would
agree that the Managers were doing something about it.

  Q. Under "Recognition" -- do you see that?
       A. Yes.

  Q. "More recognition when crew worked their days off or stop
over." Stop overs are referring to working late, finishing
       late on their shift?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Later than you were scheduled?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Did you agree with that comment?
       A. To be perfectly honest with you, I do not really recall
quite a bit now. I do not see any problem with it at all.

  Q. Was the complaint that people felt it was being taken for
granted that they would stay late or come in on their days
       off?
       A. I would not say it was taken for granted, but they were
looking towards getting bonuses and other incentives to
       actually stay on.
