Day 182 - 02 Nov 95 - Page 04

Can I merely say this in relation to the matters under your
second head: by all means, ask Mr. Jenssen about his
responses to specific allegations or comments in
Mr. Holmes' statement, but I rely upon you not to use them
as a springboard to run off down avenues which are not
covered in the statement. Let us try and keep it under
       control.

Just in case it was not obvious, I cannot speak Norwegian.
I seem to remember from one visit to that country that "Kan
du snakke Norsk" means "Do you speak Norwegian", and that
is the full extent of what I remember. I am right, at
least, about that. Yes, call Mr. Jenssen, then.

                    THOMAS KVITLE JENSSEN, sworn
                      Examined by the Defendants

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Mr. Jenssen, I anticipate you speak excellent
English. However, it is not your first language,
       presumably?
       A. No.

  Q. So, if at any stage during your evidence you have the least
anxiety as to whether you have understood a question or
whether you have expressed yourself clearly, say so.
       A. Well, if I stumble or if I say something, please say
       so.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Do not worry about that. My only concern is
if you think that you did not understand a question to any
       extent. Yes.

MR. MORRIS: Could you give your full name and address, please?
       A. Thomas Kvitle Jenssen, ***************, **********,
       Norway.

MR. MORRIS: Can I say that we have a copy of Mr. Jenssen's
statement with those details on it. I think that will be
the last bit of Norwegian we have.

(To the witness): When did you start working for
       McDonald's?
       A. I started in late summer of 1988.

  Q. Are you still an employee of McDonald's?
       A. Yes, I am.

  Q. When was the last time you worked in the store?
       A. On Sunday, last Sunday.

  Q. Which is the store where you work?
       A. The store -----

  Q. Say it slowly.
       A. It is the store in Nedre Slottsgt. I can spell it out
       for you. It is difficult.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: No, I have it down in writing here.

  MR. MORRIS: OK.
