Day 144 - 28 Jun 95 - Page 34
A. Yes, I saw him at the hearing before the Ontario Labour
Board. I was there for a day, a little more than a day,
and I also had lunch with him on that occasion.

Q. Was that the first time you met Mr. Valentine?
A. Yes, it is possible I may have met him casually at an
owner/operator convention, but I really do not recall.

MR. MORRIS: You said about Mr. Valentine organising crew
meetings. Were there rap sessions as well ---
A. Yes.

Q. -- at this time?
A. I am not sure but even -- I thought I heard in Sarah's,
I may be wrong, in Sarah's statement that activities and
crew meetings -- she may have thrown in rap sessions --
were frequent, so ---

Q. Around that time?
A. -- even the witness says that.

Q. But, I mean, as far as your information from Mr. Valentine,
that would accord with your understanding of the situation?
A. It was a normal practice to have rap sessions, crew
meetings, crew activity, in that location for as long
as -----

Q. Frequently?
A. Yes, all the time.

Q. So how often do rap sessions generally take place?
A. Well, every store, every owner/operator, will do it
differently. Generally speaking, it could be monthly, it
could be -- it depends upon the needs at the moment -- it
could be weekly, it could be monthly, it could be
quarterly. It would run a spectrum from weekly to
quarterly depending upon what was going on, what business
interests were occurring in the restaurant. So it will
vary but they are frequent events.

Q. So the average would be something like every six weeks, a
couple of months?
A. I do not want to say "average" because I have learned a
long time ago there is no such thing as "average". You
have some at one end of the spectrum and you have others at
the other end of the spectrum.

Q. But at least every three months it should be occurring?
A. Generally speaking, it would happen every three months.
There may be occasions where they are using a different
communication system, then crew meetings and I do not want
to ------

Q. I am talking about rap sessions specifically.
A. Rap sessions -- generally, it would happen but they
could also be doing the opinion surveys. There are a lot
of different ways of communicating with crew people.

Q. But rap sessions are very specific, are they not? In
theory, the crew can put over an opinion?
