Day 102 - 13 Mar 95 - Page 25

whether, were any problems, anything unsatisfactory about
the way that it was done.

  Q. It would be unusual for them to stand there the whole time
       during the catching process watching?
       A. It would be unusual for them to be there the whole
       time, yes.

  Q. It would be unusual for them to be there for any great
       length of time?
       A. Well, they are there, as I say, in various stages. It
will depend on the individual how long they actually spend
       with the catchers.

  Q. Loading is usually carried out at night, is it not?
       A. It often is at night, yes.

  Q. Is it usually carried out at night?
       A. Not always. They are catching -- catching starts in
the afternoon. It goes on in the evening and through the
       night.

  Q. How many hours do the catchers usually work then?
       A. The catchers work, as I understand it, they normally
       work an eight hour shift.

  Q. So would there be two shifts, one starting in the early
afternoon and then another one starting in the early hours
       of the morning?
       A. No. They are organised into teams and the teams are
phased, so that you have people starting at various
intervals throughout the afternoon and evening.

  Q. Do you mean individual people or do you mean individual
       teams are phased?
       A. Individual teams are phased to start at different
       times.

  Q. What, one hour, two hours, three hours apart?
       A. I would think so, yes. I do not know the details.

  Q. You do not know which of those or if it was longer than
       that?
       A. Well, I think it will vary. I think it will depend on
the requirements of the particular day, how far they have
to travel. Those kind of logistical arrangements are down
to the day-to-day management of those teams.

  Q. How often do you observe the catching in the course of a
       year?
       A. I would only go to watch catching occasionally, and
perhaps two or three times a year.

  Q. How often would OVSs observe catching in the course of a
       year?
       A. I really could not answer that. You would have to ask
the OVS but he certainly -- he goes out to farms to observe
this from time to time. But, how frequently, I really
       could not say.
