  Q. Using HCFCs?
       A. It would have affected Australia, and I would certainly
feel that other parts of the company that are interested in
this particular issue would be aware of it. I am not aware
       of it.

  Q. This was a promotion, was it not, a full page
advertisement? So if the description of HCFCs that were
used, as far as we know, in 29 countries in 1989 -- I think
the figure was, but a significant number of countries --
was incorrectly described as ozone friendly, then that
would be something of relevance to all the countries that
were using HCFCs, would it not?
       A. In most of the marketing meetings that I can remember,
the discussions did not centre around issues where a
Practices Commission either said something was correct or
incorrect. It just did not come up. If it had, I would
tell you it had, but it had not.

  Q. Does McDonald's take the rulings of such bodies and
Standards Authorities, Trades Commissions, whatever, on its
       promotional activities seriously?
       A. I would hope that the country in which they are issued
       takes them seriously, yes.

  Q. The other countries are not bothered, then?
       A. No. There is no central bulletin which talks about
issues in each country. I have never seen one.

  Q. So if something that you have done in one country has been
deemed to be deceptive or dishonest or misleading, or
whatever, the Corporation as a whole does not concern
       itself; it is not interested?
       A. I cannot talk about the Corporation as whole. I can
only talk about what I have received or information that
I have received, and I received no information about this.

  Q. Right. You heard about the UK. I will not go on about
       that.
       A. Yes.

  Q. Do you know about Finland, in 1990, banning a children's
advert which they say exploited the loneliness of a child?
       A. No, I do not.

  Q. You do not know about that?
       A. No.

  Q. Never heard of anything about it?
       A. That is correct.

  Q. This is a formal admission by McDonald's; they have
admitted this section. Is that not something that concerns
all the countries where McDonald's operate, all their
       promotional activities?
       A. Again, I think that the rules and regulations in a
particular country are most important to that country.
This probably -- and, again, I can only speculate that in
the European theatre it may have been discussed, but it was
