sector, go about marketing their products in a general
way.

Q. Just very briefly, you have produced a number of books?
A. Yes.

Q. Of which the latest has been -- some of it has been
disclosed by the Plaintiffs. I will just show the court.
It is the "Vegetarian Encyclopaedia"?
A. It is the "Encyclopaedia of Vegetarian Living".

Q. Did you write that yourself?
A. I did.

Q. Every word?
A. Every word apart from obvious quotations.

Q. You have produced other books that are mainly to do with
health and meat, yes?
A. Many of them are. Linda McCartney's Home Cooking is a
major best seller both in this country and in other
countries. I was the coauthor and conceiver of that
project. I also undertook primary marketing consultancy
for the range of food products that were subsequently
launched bearing that name.

In addition, I regularly work with my wife and we author
or coauthor other books in this area generally. I have
listed some of them in my testimony here; others I could
mention, books such as Super Living, which in itself was
an encyclopaedic book not specifically related to diet,
although it had various chapters concerning diet.

Q. "The Quick Cholesterol Clean Out"?
A. Yes. That was part of a series of three books that my
wife and I produced.

Q. You say in your statement that many of your books seek to
translate medical and scientific findings into language
easily understood by a lay audience?
A. That is right. We do, with increasing frequency, work
with commercial organisations in this field who have a
commonality of interest with us. One particular book in
that series, which is called The Quick Cholesterol and Fat
Counter, was taken up by Kellogs very successfully in this
country, although it was not a sponsored book. We worked
with Kellogs on it. Kellogs at the time were very
interested in promoting the idea of healthy eating,
specifically in connection with one of their food product
launches. You will see from the most recent book that
I have written, The Encyclopaedia of Vegetarian Living,
is, indeed, sponsored by another food company.

So, we are very, I think the best way of putting it,
commercially friendly. We are very keen to work with food
companies, with those companies who are seeking to both
improve their products and improve the health of nation.

Q. You are not against food companies per se?
A. By no means. My entire background has been in
